LATERALITY
Why Is the Left Ear Commonly Used for taVNS?
Left-ear stimulation is common in published taVNS protocols, but laterality is only one part of a complete method.

01
A common convention
Published protocols frequently select the left ear and relate the choice to conventions from implanted VNS and cardiac anatomy. The rationale does not make all left-ear designs equivalent.
02
What laterality cannot establish
Ear side alone does not establish target engagement, safety, tolerability, or an outcome. Site, electrode, waveform, intensity, schedule, population, and comparator remain relevant.
Both NeuroThaw configurations are designed around left-ear taVNS. Exact placement, parameters, and use instructions have not been released.
QUESTIONS
Frequently asked questions
Is left-ear taVNS always required?
No. Study designs vary, and laterality must be interpreted with the rest of the protocol.
Does left-ear placement make different devices equivalent?
No. Hardware, electrodes, parameters, controls, and intended use can differ.
