The parameter set
01
Electrical parameters work together
Frequency, pulse width, waveform, polarity, and amplitude define the electrical signal. Electrode area and skin contact influence current density and sensation, while device output architecture affects how the programmed signal reaches the interface.
Intensity may be fixed, adjusted to perception, set below discomfort, or determined by another protocol rule. A numeric value without the method and units is incomplete.
02
Timing is part of dose
Duty cycle describes active and inactive intervals. Session length, sessions per day or week, and the total study period add further dimensions to exposure.
Published taVNS studies use heterogeneous parameter sets. A setting from one device, electrode, placement, or population cannot be transferred automatically to another.
03
NeuroThaw parameter status
NeuroThaw stimulation parameters, permitted ranges, program definitions, and use instructions have not been published. The P1–P6 and P1–P9 labels describe planned program slots, not clinical protocols.
QUESTIONS
Frequently asked questions
What does hertz mean in taVNS?
Hertz indicates cycles or pulses per second, depending on how the waveform is defined.
Is intensity the same across devices?
No. Units, output mode, electrode geometry, contact, and adjustment method affect interpretation.
Do more programs mean a stronger evidence base?
No. Program count is a design feature and does not establish safety or effectiveness.
